The winery has an area of 45 hectares and is crossed by the Borro della Massa, which strongly influences the modeling of the slopes. The soils of the area are mainly composed of green and gray clay with intercalations of fine siliceous limestone and quartz-limestone sandstone. The vineyards cover 25 hectares with Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon varieties. Since 2002 La Massa has started a research project. The aim is to study the morphology of the soil in order to apply the right cultivation techniques. After the harvest of the fully ripe grapes, the aging process begins for 11 months in French oak barrels. During this time, the wine remains in contact with the fine lees, which makes the wine gain structure and thus become more harmonious. Awards: - 90/100 points by Wine Spectator - 91/100 points from James Suckling - 90/100 points from Falstaff Tasting notes:Dark red in the glass. On the nose aromas of juicy cherries, dark berries, subtle spice of Tuscan herbs and notes of wood. On the palate fruity of cherries, raspberries and vanilla. These are accompanied by fine tannins. Powerful on the palate and long lasting finish.
