Benriach is always looking for an eclectic mix of casks from around the world, selected for their exceptional character and flavours to pass on to the whisky. The casks are filled with three different types of spirit: classic, peated or triple distilled. The distillery is renowned for its long-standing heritage and, with the end of 2019, is creating a new range that will bring out even more of the variety and versatility of Benriach's "orchard fruit style", covering the full spectrum of whisky tastes. The colour palette of the gift boxes and labels is inspired by the natural surroundings of Speyside. In the early 1970s, Benriach broke convention on Speyside by returning to distilling whisky in the old 19th century style using malted barley smoked with highland peat. This woody highland peat gives Benriach peated whiskies distinctly sweet and smoky notes. Benriach Smoke Season is the first release in this series. The single malt is aged in American Virgin Oak and Bourbon casks. Tasting notes:Colour: Light gold. Nose: Refined, peaty, smoke aromas, oak, citrus peel. Taste: Intense, smoke, peat, caramel, almonds, orchard, toasted oak, oranges. Finish: Long lasting.
